Six-Second Kiss

So, just in case you were wondering, marriage takes work. I, having only been married 9 years, have been through a decent amount of challenges with my dear husband, but still have ample room for growing, learning and generally improving on my wifing. One way of growing in this area, is to seek wisdom from those who are further down the road. It's humbling to actually listen to someone and apply their knowledge and experience to your life. I will be honest and say that it is not a strength of mine; I often think I know a great deal of what I know very little of. So for me, genuine listening is un-natural and takes practice, but the Bible says it's wise. Listen to advice and accept instruction so that you may gain wisdom in the future. Proverbs 19:20

My friend linked to this article called Misional Mothering on her blog and it was a nice encouragement to me. So, I looked up what else Mrs. Jani Ortland, who has raised four children and been married 39 years, has to say. That's when I found this article called The Six-Second Kiss. In case you don't check it out (though it is very short), she writes about how her and her husband send each other off with a six-second kiss everyday. What can I say? The woman has 30 years working it out with her husband on me, so there must be something to this. And, it's hard to argue, right? I mean, if you aren't interested in trying it, what does that say about the current state of your marriage? Okay, I admit, when my husband was at his old job where he left at 3am or 4am, I may have not been as enthusiastic about it, but looking back, I always wanted him to say good-bye because it was a bit lonely waking up without him. Now, with a new job and a different schedule, I will be trying this out tomorrow. (I hope the habit lasts longer than my running program did!)

I read the little article. It was good. She's right...it's so easy to just say goodbye quickly, rushing around getting ready for whatever. I might try this myself. ;)
