Through a Goodreads friend, I checked this book out, not really knowing at all what it was about. I usually like to know little to nothing about books I'm going to read, which has it's up and down sides. When I brought this one back from the library, Joe read the back and said, "This sounds like something I would read, not really your thing." Or something to that effect. Maybe that is true. Maybe if I had read the back I would've decided not to check it out, but the facts are: this book is awesome and you should read it!
Told from the perspective of a teenage girl, this story begins in a barren, desperate setting, but you soon learn that we are well into the future. The alternate world that Collins has created is captivating and extreme. As many great stories, this one has many layers. It's about family, oppression, survival and, of course, love. I read the first one in a couple of days since I lost my head and stayed up until 2am one night. Not something I would suggest when you have two little boys who wake up around 6am. For the second book, I decided to take it slow and made myself remember that I can always read more the next day, so it only took maybe 4 days to read. And I am not a fast reader people- meaning, these books are hard to put down. Now, I am trying to patiently wait for the third and final book called Mockingjay, due to hit stores in August.... AUGUST!?!?!?!
